Proposed changes for AMS Music and Media Study Group
Dear AMS Music and Media Study Group members,
I am writing to let you know of several proposed changes to the group. We will go over these at our AMS Study Group business meeting on Saturday, November 14th at 4:00 PM conference time, but here is a summary.
First, we are proposing the addition of a Student Officer to join the co-chairs in its decision-making and activities, both within the AMS annual conference and any other related events. We envision this role to be not only a great help to the study group, but also a good line on one’s CV, especially given current tight job markets. This change will mean a change in our by-laws, so please consider looking at them before the business meeting. They are in the Documents section of this group site. If approved, the role would go into effect after the approval.
Second, we are proposing a Student Prize for Best Presentation related to Music and Media at the Annual AMS Conference. Details will be worked out in time for the 2027 AMS conference, but the expectation is that there will be a small monetary amount (from the funds available to us from AMS) as well as recognition – again, not a bad thing to have on one’s CV!
Third, we are looking for a new co-chair. The role lasts for three years, and includes being on the Study Group Program Committee and whatever else is agreed upon by the co-chairs. The role is as time-consuming as you want to make it, and also looks good for those working toward tenure. You may self-nominate on the day of the meeting or let us know beforehand if you are interested.
If you have any questions regarding any of this, please do not hesitate to ask. You may contact any of us through the members portion of the AMS Study Group community site.
Sincerely, Lisa Scoggin (on behalf of the Music and Media SG co-chairs)
