Business Meeting Minutes from AMS 2025
Business meeting minutes, Saturday, November 16, 2024
Prepared by Jordan Stokes
- Dan: Made an announcement about the sign in sheet/email list
I did a rough count: 25 people were in the room
- update on past year activity
- Updated website and mailing list. Mentioned that there’s a signup through mailchimp
- Lisa began her term as co-chair in January
- Introduced herself as an animation specialist and an independent scholar
- Dan: we have the facebook page, the AMS groups page, and the mailing list
- Second annual AMS/SMT round table – this time on Batman 89 and Batman Mask of the Phantasm
- Planning to do that again, at least in the summer, maybe in January
- The AMS call for papers may be earlier this year, and it can no longer come after the AMS’s own call for papers
- James Deaville self-nominates to be the new co-chair
- Jordan stokes resigns
- Dan: the proposed revisions to the bylaws went out over email. Summary:
- We’ve loosened up the specific duties for the co-chairs (which had a rigorous three-year cycle)
- We are moving to a best practice involved in three-year term limits as much as possible
- Specific language inserted and removed to make online voting possible
- References to the bibliography have been removed from the bylaws; we still have the raw data from the bibliography and may find a new home for it at some point.
- Small changes to content and wording, removing specific references to tech platforms and so on.
- Lisa moved to approve the bylaws – I think David Clem seconded?
- Bylaws are approved by a hand vote
Lisa on future projects:
- we have ideas for future happy hours, but reach out to us
- we have ideas for future CFPs for the annual meeting, but reach out to us
- we are looking for a social media manager – none of us are currently good at that. If anyone wants to maintain an active presence on Bluesky, please reach out to us
- Dan: we also were thinking of making an online presentation on the use of multimedia in presentations and teaching. We don’t have a timeline for that, but it is in the works – if you have ideas about that as an independent activity, please let us know
- James mentions that he and Steve Meyer had a running discussion on this topic.
